... But fuck the lifeSo tomorrow is the start of Breast Cancer (BC) awareness month! If you are a total Rockstar and are considering helping out charities in anyway - can I just please, please, PLEASE ask you to be mindful where your hard earned $$$ is going? Look beyond the patronising 'SAVE THE TATA's' campaigns (like... c'mon) and swipe those bloody pink ribbons to the side and look into the shadows... I think it's fair to say we are all aware of how to check our bloody breasts by now, I mean... I'm no expert, but I think the REAL issues are actually getting referred and treated effectively? Still with me? Agree? FANTASTIC!
So here is the thing - Did you know that BC is the biggest killer of women under 50 in the UK? Or how about the fact that 1/3 of people who get BC will inevitably die from the spread of BC (metastasis) to other parts of the body? Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) will kill you - Yet MBC is massively misunderstood, underfunded and straight up under-rated! Why, may you ask? because it is a gruesome story about humans failing each other. If you want to help, but feel (rightly) overwhelmed at the choices infront of you please consider helping out METUPUK. Unlike other cancer charities (that give their board members six figure salaries ... not naming names) it is entirely led by patients of BC who are volunteering their time to actually make this disease chronic and not terminal! If your skint, no worries - I wasn't with you for your money anyway... *Ahem* Can you please show solidarity by using the #BusyLivingWithMets and #IAmThe31 hashtags on any BC posts you make? Or... even if your not about the # life, could you just tell someone about this? The thing is, apathy kills more people than direct action. So take direct action on apathy and lets eradicate early deaths. Nice one, thank you so much for reading guys. Donate here |
A ' no holds' page about my life with incurable advanced Breast Cancer, in the hope it will give a realistic, detailed account to other young women going through the unfortunate illness.
